Dr. Michelle Leverette, a visiting assistant professor and co-coordinator of UTA's accelerated online principal certification program, completed her first book, "The Bacon Tree," earlier this August. The tale follows the adventures of a hungry traveler in search of a tasty treat.

As part of her unique work outside of UTA, Leverette was invited to be the "Guest Author" for Literacy Night at Hattie Dyer Elementary in Krum, Texas.

Students and adults asked questions about being an author and the process for writing a book. The school's literacy committee and leadership offered multiple hands-on, interactive practice for all levels of the community.

"It was so encouraging to see the love of learning reaching students and their families in unique ways," said Leverette. "My favorite station was the 'reading dogs' program where trained dogs patiently listen to children read to them. Students have multiple incentive days throughout the year to read to their furry friends. This was a bonus day of reading for those who attended the annual Literacy Night."

While at the event, Leverette also shared information about UTA's 100% accelerated online M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with principal certificate courses, as well as the Principal Certification Only program, with local educators, administrators, and school board members.
