The School of Architecture in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) is thrilled to announce the appointment of two distinguished professionals to lead our undergraduate and graduate programs. Professor Julia Lindgren will serve as the undergraduate architecture program director, while Professor Dennis Chiessa will be the graduate architecture program director.

Julia Lindgren brings a wealth of expertise in design-build studios and a strong commitment to social equity and community engagement. As an Assistant Professor, she immerses her students in hands-on experiences that challenge conventional design practices. Her research explores how design processes can be used to restructure power distribution within cities. She is invaluable in fostering a curriculum that promotes inclusivity and thoughtful urban environments.

Dennis Chiessa, also an Assistant Professor at CAPPA, integrates his architectural practice with research and teaching to explore the impact of design on underrepresented communities. His creative approach encourages students to consider diverse perspectives in their work, ensuring that architecture is functional and socially responsible. His leadership in the graduate program is expected to enhance our focus on community-centered design principles.

In their new roles, Professors Lindgren and Chiessa will collaborate closely with Dr. David Franco, Director of the School of Architecture, to oversee the daily operations of their programs and develop long-term strategies that will shape the future of architecture at CAPPA. Their complementary expertise promises to energize the academic environment and enhance the educational experience for all our students. Their leadership marks a new chapter for the School of Architecture, and we look forward to seeing their contributions enrich our community and broaden our students’ horizons.
