On November 16, 2024, Dean Ming-Han Li of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) was presented with the prestigious Outstanding Alumni Award by the Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU). This award is the highest honor granted to alumni of the department and a rare distinction, having been bestowed on less than 1% of its graduates.

Dean Li joined the ceremony virtually alongside five other distinguished recipients. The event celebrated not only his exceptional accomplishments but also his ongoing connection to his alma mater. The award was presented by Dr. Hsu, one of Dean Li's former professors at NTU, who expressed great pride in Dean Li’s impressive career. Dr. Hsu highlighted how Dean Li has always acknowledged his roots, particularly his foundational education in agricultural engineering at NTU.

Dean Li’s contributions extend beyond individual recognition to fostering global collaboration. Most recently, in 2024, he facilitated the renewal of a cooperative agreement between the University of Texas at Arlington and National Taiwan University, strengthening academic ties and opportunities for future scholars.

Dr. Tamara L. Brown, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at UTA, shared her thoughts on this significant recognition. "We are honored that National Taiwan University has selected Dean Ming-Han Li for this award. He works tirelessly to address important issues such as sustainability, public policy, and equity to improve our community. Additionally, he encourages students to gain new perspectives through collaborations with other universities, industry partners, and community groups. We are proud to call him a colleague, as he brings strategic leadership, a spirit of innovation and collaboration, and strong connections to research and industry partners to our university."

Reflecting on this latest honor, Dean Li expressed gratitude to those who have guided him along his journey. “I am extremely fortunate to have met many people who I consider mentors for my career and life. Being awarded this incredible honor makes me humble as I have been helped by them many times along the way.”

Dean Li’s accomplishments exemplify the impact of dedication, leadership, and an enduring connection to one’s roots. His recognition by NTU underscores his role as a leader in education and landscape architecture while inspiring future generations to strive for excellence on both local and global scales.
