Student organizations have the ability to inspire and develop tomorrow’s leaders and young professionals. Through involvement with these organizations, members can broaden their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, build networks, develop leadership skills, and volunteer to help their members as well as their communities.

The Women in Business student organization is a unique forum at the UTA College of Business that allows students of all Business degrees and backgrounds to make meaningful connections with the intent to raise their voices together while creating a supportive community.

“At Women in Business, we’re all about building connections with each other. As a student, you hear all the time about the importance of networking, but many are focused solely on building connections with recruiters. We see the importance of developing networks among peers as well as recruiters and business partners,” said Carolina Paz, Women in Business President. “Many of our social events focus on developing the relationships of our members and meeting with Alumni who have recently graduated.”

The importance of focusing on these peer relationships gives members the opportunity to look past the curtain of business and see how the real world is and what to expect from it.

“Many of the alumni who come back to talk to us give us great advice. They let us know what to expect in the professional world and things we can be working toward now as college students,” said Paz. “We hear about how they overcame certain struggles and decisions they’ve made. The events give our members a chance to learn and bounce ideas off those who came before us.”

Though the focus of the group centers around Women in business, the organization is open to anyone who’s interested in joining.

“We do have some male members as well. The whole idea is about highlighting women in the workforce, but even though that’s the case, it’s important to network with everyone. We do highlight that fact. It’s important to make connections with everyone, because at the end of the day our male peers are also our allies and coworkers,” said Paz.

Paz explained that the importance of Women in Business as a student organization doesn’t only lie within the ability to make meaningful connections, but also to highlight the achievements of women throughout history.

“It’s been such a long battle for women to get where we are today, and there’s still more that can be done. When women were first allowed into the workforce, I think they were pinned against each other a lot. For many women, that sense of belonging in the workplace wasn’t there. Which is why it’s important to have an organization like Women in Business, to remember that history and build each other up,” said Paz. “We want to build those networks and make those connections to remove some of that inferred competitiveness and help each other here and in the future.”

Women in Business strives to build its members, raise the voices of women at the UTA College of Business and within the workplace, and create lasting connections for its member to lean on in the future.
