UTA College of Business hosts Student Organization Fair
The College of Business held a Student Organization Fair on September 11, 2024, which allowed student organizations to recruit and give information to students looking for academic communities to connect with.
The fair gave students a chance to meet with student organization representatives and learn about each one. From the Goolsby leadership Academy to the Finance Society, many organizations were represented and available to answer questions.
“Today we had the College of Business Student Org Fair. We had student representatives set up tables where they could have other students come out and find out who they are,” said Suzanne Stringham College of Business Student Organization Coordinator. “One of the biggest things I want the students to get out of this event, is that we in the dean’s office and in the college care about them. We want to support them in whatever it is that they are interested in.”

While the event acted as a recruiting event for student organizations, it also acted as a networking event for those seeking connections and opportunities for personal growth.
“It’s important for us to come out here and recruit because a lot of people just don’t know how to get involved,” said Erika Pena, Social Media and Marketing Director for the Society for Human Resources. “The best way to teach is to put a face to an organization. We really want to get people involved so they can see that there’s different things to do at school besides just school.”
Student organizations allow students to get away from books and classrooms and connect with each other while still being active in their academic and local communities. In many cases, students gain valuable leadership and management skills from participating in student organizations as well.
“Student organizations are important for college students because they give them an opportunity to lead something. It gives them the chance to lead their peers and think about what they want to do in their specific areas,” said Stringham.
Pena explored how experiences within a student organization can lead to success with employers after graduation from the university.
“It’s important to be a part of an organization on campus because companies want to see that you’re active outside of just work and outside of just school,” said Pena. “There is a bigger picture to everything. It helps you get prepared for when you go out there and network. Starting with an org in school is very low stakes, but it’s a great way to start and meet new people.”
The College of Business Student Organization Fair exposed students to the various student-led organizations within the College of Business and gave them the opportunity to explore opportunities to lead, learn and volunteer.
