The University of Texas at Arlington College of Business held a Meet the Majors event on August 17, 2024.

The event introduced new and undeclared students to the College of Business Advising Team, Student Organizations, Department Chairs, and educated them about the variety of majors and disciplines the college offers.

“For me, Meet the Majors was something that gave me a great idea about how everyone at the College of Business cares for you,” said Richa Desai, College of Business Junior. “I came to this event last year and was introduced to a lot of student organizations that I ended up joining. It really has been a full circle moment for me, because now I get to be here recruiting new members!”

The event was geared toward students who had not declared a major, to learn about the paths required to attain each major, the types of information they’d be learning pursuing specific degrees, and the outcomes that each program could lead to.

“I’ve actually learned about a lot of majors that I didn’t know the school offered,” said Vy Pham, College of Business Freshman. “A lot about business is networking, so it’s great to start to get to know people, especially around your school. I feel a lot more prepared after coming to this event because I now have a better idea about what I want to do and how to plan out my future.”

The event also allowed students to meet academic department leadership through the Department Chairs, and the advisors who will help them choose and pursue each degree program.

“This event wasn’t a thing when I enrolled here as a freshman, so knowing what I know now and being able to share it with incoming Freshman is very important,” said Carolina Paz College of Business Student Ambassador. “Coming in you don’t even know what to major in a lot of times. So, if it were me as a freshman, being able to get a description of each major through a fun event would have helped a lot.”

The Meet the Majors event aims to connect students with academic peers, staff, and faculty to set them out on the right foot while beginning their college experience and selecting a major to work towards during their educational journey.
