Real Estate Conference connects professionals and academics
On April 25, 2023, the College of Business held the annual Real Estate Conference on campus highlighting Dallas-Fort Worth downtown areas. Dr. Sriram Villupuram, the Director of the Ryan-Reilly Center for Urban Land Utilization and Real Estate Graduate Professor, coordinated this year’s event. Speakers included Michael Wallace, Senior Vice President of Hunt Realty Investments, Andy Taft, CEO of Downtown Fort Worth Inc, and Jim Ross, the Mayor of Arlington.

The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Villupuram. The panel discussed opportunities and challenges facing downtown real estate development. The panel discussion included Douglas Prude, Director of Economic Development and Opportunity, Downtown Dallas Inc., Johnny K. Campbell, President and CEO of City Center Fort Worth, and Maggie Campbell, President and CEO of Downtown Arlington Management Corporation. These corporations are working to add visibility and recognition to downtown properties.
Dr. Villupuram talked about the goal of this year’s event. “We wanted to bring together industry professionals and academics to gain insights into the latest developments in DFW real estate and exchange knowledge and experiences. We hope the attendees gained valuable knowledge about challenges and opportunities in downtown real estate development and investments.”

Villupuram also spoke about the theme of the event and why it was chosen this year, “Most of the urban growth in the DFW metroplex has been accomplished by growing outwards (away from central business districts or downtowns). Given the recent attention to housing cost and affordability, we decided to bring the focus back to density and downtown development.”
