2005 Distinguished Alumni Gala recognizes excellence
William J. Commer considers himself “downright lucky” to be at the helm of a career that has afforded him both professional and personal success. Success, he says, that began at UT Arlington. “I could not be an architect today were it not for the faculty at this University,” he said. Commer (’84 MArch), a founder/senior partner of Projekt WJCA, Inc., in New Jersey, was among 13 honored at the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Gala in October. Fellow honoree Ross Querry (’95 BS) also appreciates the foundation he received at his alma mater. He earned the University’s first bachelor of science degree in exercise science.
“I use my UT Arlington education every day to assist others with physical limitations,” said Dr. Querry, an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. The Distinguished Alumni Gala recognizes outstanding alumni for their individual achievements, contributions to their industries or professions and service to UT Arlington. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor given by the University and Alumni Association to a graduate. “The event not only honors exceptional alumni, but it also generates significant scholarship funds for students,” said Alumni Association Executive Director Christina Cobb. “We are especially grateful for our sponsors, whose continued support makes this one of the most special evenings of the year.”
