SEYMOUR NAMED INTERIM VOLLEYBALL COACH. Diane Seymour, a former UTA player and an assistant coach for the past eight years, has been named interim head volleyball coach. She replaces Janine Smith, who stepped down in July after 10 years as head coach. Smith left UTA to spend more time with her family and to take a teaching position at Silver Creek Elementary School in Azle.

GARCIA NAMED SENIOR WOMAN ADMINISTRATOR; LEHMANN NEW ATHLETIC TRAINER. Debbie Garcia, formerly the academic adviser in the UTA Athletics Department, was named senior woman administrator in July. Terry Lehmann, previously assistant athletic trainer at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, was named head athletic trainer.

CARLON ELECTED SLC PRESIDENT. Athletics Director Pete Carlon began a two-year term July 1 as president of the Southland Conference. Carlon, who has directed UTA�s athletic programs since 1996, previously served as the SLC�s vice president, secretary/treasurer and chairman of the finance committee.

UTA MEN WIN ALL-SPORTS TROPHY. The men�s athletic teams captured the Southland Conference all-sports trophy for the second straight year. Spurred by first-place finishes in tennis and basketball, the men finished with 77.5 points to 69.5 for second-place Texas State.

CORRIE NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN. The College Sports Information Directors of America named UTA tennis player David Corrie to the 2004 Academic All-America men�s at-large university division first team in June. Corrie has won the Southland Conference men�s tennis Student-Athlete of the Year honor in its two years of existence and was named SLC Player of the Year in 2004. He also participated in the NCAA Tournament in 2004, ranking as high as 23rd nationally during the 2003-04 season. He compiled a 3.93 grade point average as an economics major.

HAGLUND SETS SCHOOL RECORD. Senior distance runner Kajsa Haglund broke the school record in the women�s 800 meters in June with a time of 2:07.27 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin. Her time was 16th best in the field of 28.

THREE UTA ATHLETES EARN ALL-ACADEMIC HONOR. Erik Petersson, Kajsa Haglund and Ivorita Taylor were named to the District VI All-Academic men�s and women�s track and field cross country teams announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Petersson, an international business major with a 3.93 grade point average, was named to the men�s first team, while Haglund and Taylor were selected to the women�s second unit.

STUDENTS, ALUMNI START WEB SITE. A new Web site is available for UTA sports fans at www.utamavericks.com. The site, which was started by UTA students and alumni, includes a forum for Mavericks fans to voice their opinions. Also, visit www.voy.com/62122/ for another Mavericks forum. FORMER UTA PLAYER NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM. Former UTA baseball player Ryan Roberts was selected to participate in the Class A South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 29 in Charleston, S.C. Roberts led his team, the Charleston Alley Cats, in several offensive categories during the season.

LACROSSE WINS DIVISION TITLE. UTA won the Lonestar Alliance Division B lacrosse championship in April but declined an invitation to the U.S. Lacrosse Association�s National Championship Tournament because it conflicted with final exams. The team defeated Nicholls State University, 21-8, in the title game. Lacrosse operates as a club sport, not an NCAA program, at UTA.
