A dream come true
Clay Gould's dream of transforming UTA's baseball stadium into a nationally regarded facility became a reality in April as more than 1,000 fans attended dedication ceremonies for the renovated diamond.
Christened Clay Gould Ballpark, the stadium features a new entrance and outdoor plaza, improved lighting, a new outfield wall increased seating. All were wishes of the former head coach, who died at age 29 in 2001 after a 16-month battle with cancer. The $3.1 million makeover also includes a bronze plaque with Gould's likeness and a commemorative brick walk and wall of fame recognizing financial contributors. "I know he'd be happiest about these lights and the night games," said his widow, Julie Gould, pictured above with their daughter Logan. "It's more than he imagined, I'm sure."
Additional renovations are planned in the next few years. |
