Learning without limits

We had been kicking around the idea of running a story on the oldest and youngest UTA students for more than a year. I'd given it only a half-hearted credence, figuring we had a couple of 17-year-olds and maybe a handful of students in their 70s. Nothing worthy of building an issue around.

Charles Johnson and Jocelyn Zee
As the oldest student on campus, 85-year-old Charles Johnson has lived through the history that he studies in class. As UTA's youngest full-time student, 15-year-old Jocelyn Zee is on the fast track to medical school.
June Woodruff
At 18, Andi Baritchi was the youngest person to earn a master's degree at UTA and is on pace to become the University's youngest Ph.D. graduate. June Woodruff, on the other hand, was 75 when she received a degree in organ performance.
Emory Estes and Minerva Cordero-Epperson
English Professor Emory Estes' UTA career has spanned six decades, while mathematics Associate Professor Minerva Cordero-Epperson just completed her first year on campus.
Keith Alcorn
Keith Alcorn produced his first animated films as a UTA student in the 1970s. Now, the co-founder of DNA Productions is reaping the benefits of his recent Oscar nomination for Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
Amirosh Issa
Cello student Amirosh Issa has immersed himself in music as a way to cope with the death of his brother, Vic. His talent and passion landed him a spot in Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project tour.
