Whereas | The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is an academic institution dedicated to the development and success of the students who attend providing a variety of interactive of services and courses that provide students with opportunities to promote their progress providing homework, projects and especially exams vital to their futures. |
Whereas | UTA being one of Texas' Tier One universities. All Students deserve a top-tier testing center and or area, which is reflective of UTA's status as a Tier One school that cares for its student population. There is currently a designated testing center available for students with documented disabilities, ensuring they have the necessary accommodations to succeed academically. But The vast majority of the student population do not have access to a viable testing center or designated area for taking exams, leading to potential challenges in securing a quiet and appropriate environment for testing. |
Whereas | Although students can borrow computers from the campus library, the current system allows for week-long checkouts, which is more time than is typically needed for taking an exam. |
Whereas | Given the large student population, a potential testing center would need to operate on a first-come, first-served basis. However, this would still be outweighed by providing a valuable resource for students who need access to a computer or a more suitable testing environment. |
Whereas | A designated testing center would be particularly invaluable for students who do not have access to mobile devices or computers, or who require a conducive environment for taking both proctored and non-proctored exams within the time limits set by their instructors. |
Whereas | Having staff available at such a center would ensure that students have immediate support in case of any technical difficulties arise during their exams. |
Be It Further Resolved That | It is strongly advocated for an initiative to implement the establishment of a testing center or designated area for the general student population, providing an equitable environment for all students to take their exams. |
Be It Further Resolved That | This initiative if implemented via an area of testing in addition to appropriate technology and staffing will provide a positive and effective environment for students to engage actively with their exams, and staff at the ready to ensure that no technical difficulties impede students on track to yield success in their studies at the University of Texas at Arlington. |
