Remarks
Whereas the technological advancements in iOS 12+, WatchOS 5, and Android 6.0+ now support the secure storage of campus ID cards within mobile wallets; and
Whereas during the spring semester of 2023, several institutions within the University of Texas and Texas A&M systems successfully implemented the functionality to integrate student ID cards with mobile wallets; and
Whereas the integration of campus ID cards into mobile wallets substantially reduces the reliance on physical cards, thereby mitigating the risk of low-skill skimming attacks through the protection of credentials behind robust biometric security measures; and
Whereas the availability of mobile student IDs would streamline access to campus facilities and resources, offering an enhanced, more convenient experience for students; and
Whereas the adoption of mobile IDs would facilitate seamless access to student dormitories and on-campus dining services; and
Be It Further Resolved That The University of Texas at Arlington shall establish and implement a policy that enables the importation and use of student IDs within mobile wallets. This policy will align the University with current technological standards and practices, promoting a more convenient campus environment for all students.
