Remarks
Whereas During Ernest H. Hereford's presidency in Arlington State College, students performed and were involved in minstrel shows and black-face acts that were sanctioned school events on campus that would lead to mock-slave auctions being likewise sanctioned events under President Jack Woolf, and;
Whereas During E.H. Hereford's presidency the Beauregard battle flag of the Confederacy was a highly used symbol of the school, and the athletic and spirit teams dressed up in antebellum and confederate iconography. The student community was highly active in the culture of the Confederate States of America during his tenure, and;
Whereas UTA is a leading campus for undergraduate diversity, as well as one of the most diverse campuses in the nation, and has rejected having proponents or figures of racism like E.E. Davis being named after buildings, and;
Whereas The University Center is named after E.H. Hereford and contains his bust which is used by the University as part of campus tours to all prospective students, and;
Be It Further Resolved That A referendum be held to put the question to students regarding the removal of E.H. Hereford's bust and stripping of his name from the University Center.
