Whereas | A few years ago a reflection room was constructed in Hammond Hall for faculty and students to use to meditate, reflect, pray etc.; and |
Whereas | It has served it's purpose well for faculty and students for several years as people use it regularly. However, we have outgrown the space; and |
Whereas | Other universities such as UT Austin, UT Dallas and SMU have large rooms solely designated for student reflection; and |
Whereas | The universities listed have also managed to accommodate to faculty and student's spiritual needs. For example UT Dallas incorporated a foot washing station (ablution) for students to utilize, along with mats; and |
Whereas | The campus is experiencing drastic changes through construction, now is the time to prioritize this concern and set aside a large space for another reflection room. |
Be It Further Resolved That | The University of Texas at Arlington construct or designate a large room solely for reflection and meditation open to all students and faculty. Additionally, UTA should provide necessary arrangements to satisfy faculty and student's spiritual needs along with the room. |
