Remarks Since the THECB requires a creative arts course and fine arts majors can already fulfill this requirement with a major specific course requirement. the committee felt that this resolution was not a priority at this time.
Whereas Students are required to obtain at least 3 credit hours of creative art (Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, and Theatre Appreciation) courses; and
Whereas Students with specified majors that fall into the categories of Art, Music and Theatre are suggested by their advisers to take these courses in their first year; and
Whereas These students learn all information covered in these courses over the course of their degree plan in even more comprehensive manner; and
Whereas Students enrolled in degree plans requiring over 120 hours may still be able to more flexibly graduate within four years if they may have the credit availability and time availability that would be accessible if these classes were no longer required.
Be It Further Resolved That Students in departments of Art, Music, and Theatre are no longer to be required to take these respective Appreciation classes relating to the department of their major.
