Remarks | President Karbhari has requested CIO and CFO to study this issue and brief him on overall situation, options and costs. President Karbhari further commented: As background I note that students use their ID cards and MavMoney to pay for printing and that two options currently exist to add funds to their accounts: 1. By going on-line and using a credit/debit card for which there is a $1 service charge which offsets credit card processing and licensing fees, and 2. By using a ValuePort machine for which there is no charge It should be noted that ValuePort machines accept cash only. Contrary to the resolution the use of these machines does not require a $1 service fee because they do not involve the use of a credit/debit card and not because they are “not using the online system.†The addition of machines that use credit/debit cards will all, at the minimum, result in the addition of the $1 fee. These additional machines will cost about $12,000 per machine and $1,500 in annual license costs which will need to be borne through additional fees as well. While we will continue to study this situation and will look into adding new machines I would like to point out that these will result in the added costs being passed on to users in the form of a fee |
Whereas | Often times students/staff do not maintain large sums of money on their printing account and therefore need to add money at the time of printing; and |
Whereas | The only locations where this can be done are limited to the University Center, the Central library and Davis Hall; and |
Whereas | Not every computer lab has a ValuePort Terminal (machine that accepts card or cash as form of payment to add to printing account) available for students; and |
Whereas | The online system for adding money to someone’s printing account charges a fee for such transactions. |
Be It Further Resolved That | The University of Texas at Arlington establish ValuePort terminals for every major computer lab on campus. (ex: MAC, Engineering and Science Library, Architecture Library.) |
