Whereas Each freshman receives a mid-semester grade report in the mail during their first semester at UTA; and
Whereas Oftentimes the grade shown for a particular class is not accurate and the professor is forced to give a grade of 'incomplete;' and
Whereas From a research standpoint, Dr. Anthony Baker, Director of Records for UTA was contacted and he indicated, "This would save money for UTA and not cut a program of great significance;" and
Whereas Dr. Baker stated that, "the usefulness of the mid-semester grade reports as an academic warning system is small;" and
Whereas Dr. Baker indicated the elimination of such reports would conserve paper, save labor time of date entry, free up professors' time to better educate their students and save a "few thousand dollars" in the process, and Dr. baker indicated that "Although only first semester freshmen receive these grade reports and the cost is substantially lower then sending final report cards to all the students at the end of the semester, it would still save the University money and would be a good idea."
Whereas Dr. Baker said "Money saved by the University may have to be turned back over to the state if not kept in the Records Department," and the money could "serve the UTA public through more efficient operations such as quicker transcript production and increase the amount of available supplies in which the Records Dept. could serve the students."
Be It Further Resolved That The sending out of Freshman Mid-semester Grade Reports in their first semester be discontinued immediately.
