Whereas | Elections of any sort tend to lead to distasteful displays of favoritism; and |
Whereas | Although specific groups and people may deserve recognition for various reasons, it is generally recognized as inappropriate to call for honors via Student Congress legislation to serve selfish ends; and |
Whereas | There are more appropriate ways to honor people and organizations in Student Congress meetings (announcement phase of meeting, for instance); and |
Whereas | Student Congress meeting time is valuable and limited. |
Be It Further Resolved That | Any candidate running for ANY Student Congress office, or any elected position, shall not Author or Sponsor any "honors" Legislation after filing for said office; and |
Be It Further Resolved That | Any bill filed in spite of this resolution be declared null and void by the Executive Committee prior to bringing said bill to the general meeting. |
