Whereas Students are the customers of UTA and should have certain rights--concerning what they pay for; and
Whereas Students should have the right to know the details about a class and the professor before they register; and
Whereas Most students' impressions of a class or professor is currently determined by verbal rumors and the advice of friends; and
Whereas Such vague knowledge should not be the basis for a decision on something as important and expensive as a college education; and
Whereas Currently, the only way to get first hand information on a class and professor is to audit the class, which costs the student $20, and a not-currently-enrolled student $100 per class.
Be It Further Resolved That The teacher evaluations written by students at the end of each semester be available to any student who wishes to view them; and
Be It Further Resolved That The most current syllabus for a class be made available, preferably prior to next registration. This syllabus should include a list of required reading, a daily agenda, homework requirements, and all major papers or projects due. This syllabus should also include the average number of days that a Teacher's Assistant is used instead of the designated professor; and
Be It Further Resolved That The "grade distribution" of a class should be made available. This category would include the total number of students enrolled in the class, the number of students who dropped the class, and the number of students who received A's, B's, C's, D's, and F's; and
Be It Further Resolved That The corresponding academic departments be charged with the responsibility of compiling a complete course evaluation booklet that includes all of the information above; and
Be It Further Resolved That The "Complete Course Evaluations" be published and distributed in a manner that is similar to the one used for class schedules.
