Remarks | FAILED - Condom machines are installed, serviced, and paid for by the vendor. "Recommendation of Vice President Duke is approved." President Witt, June 11, 1995. In a memo dated June 10, 1997 from Wyl Parker, Director of Housing and the UC: "On May 22, 1997, a Request for Proposal for personal products vending machines, which included condoms, was sent to the following: Aladan Corp, Protocol, and Ted Hicks. The RFPs were due back to my office by Friday, June 6, 1997. To date, I have not received any responses... Due to the apparent lack of interest from companies in this business, we may consider not to pursue this any further." |
Whereas | AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and other ailments resulting from sexual contact are non-denominational; and |
Whereas | Placing condoms on campus does not promote promiscuity but safety; and |
Whereas | The average age of a student at UTA is 26; and |
Whereas | 26 years old is both generally and legally an age considered to be responsible; and |
Whereas | Feminine hygiene machines are already accessible to females in most buildings on campus; and |
Whereas | The use of condoms is a responsibilty shared by both parties involved. |
Be It Further Resolved That | UTA, either itself or through contract with another party, place condom machines in each public bathroom in the library, residential halls, University Center, recreation buildings, and administration buildings; and |
Be It Further Resolved That | UTA make condom machines accessible to each apartment complex or other residential buildings owned, overseen, or controlled by UTA. |
