Whereas The Center for Mexican American Studies enhances the image of UTA by exhibiting its dedication to various ethnic studies programs; and
Whereas CMAS focuses on recording history that has long been neglected and studied too little; and
Whereas CMAS provides an archive of Mexican American historical documents; and
Whereas CMAS will provide courses related to learning about this growing and influential culture; and
Whereas CMAS promotes recruitment, retention, and graduation of students from college; and
Whereas CMAS provides teacher training and youth leadership classes, and CMAS has been staffed by volunteers and funded by private donations since its establishment on October 12, 1994, and UT Arlington's CMAS is the only one of its kind in the north Texas area.
Be It Further Resolved That UT Arlington should provide supplemental funding for the Center for Mexican American Studies; and
Be It Further Resolved That UTA should provide bridge funding until the university approves their upcoming biennial budget and until the regular legislative funding is obtained.
