Whereas The incidence of measles, mumps and rubella has been found to be increasing, and preventable outbreaks of these and other vaccine-preventable diseases continue to occur in persons aged 15-24 and older; and
Whereas the lack of immunization policy for UTA students continues to present a potential hazard to students on the UTA campus; and
Whereas Prematriculation immunization requirements for entry into primary and secondary educational institutions have resulted in a marked decrease in preventable disease outbreaks in school-age children; and
Whereas Prematriculation immunization requirements for entry into post-secondary institutions have been recommended by major health care and public health care organizations, including the Immunization Practices Advisory Committee of the United States Public Health Service; and
Whereas Immunization policies in post-secondary institutions in the State of Texas are left to the discretion of each individual institution and widespread voluntary compliance of Immunization Practices Advisory Committee of the United States Public Health Service; and
Whereas The health, safety, and well-being of the University of Texas at Arlington students would be best served by a mandate that all matriculating students satisfy designated immunization/immunity requirements.
Be It Further Resolved That A prematriculation immunization/immunity requirement is established to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases among students and the secondary spread of accomplished by the establishment of a system to require immunization or evidence of immunity by all students against vaccine-preventable diseases and to establish a continuing system for monitoring immunity status among the student population.
