Whereas | Several UTA instructors utilize students' Social Security Numbers (SS#) as opposed to simply students names as a means of establishing class attendance; and |
Whereas | Using such a list releases each individual student's SS# to an unknown numer of people; and |
Whereas | This exposurer of SS#'s is a dangerous method by which students may be financially or personally victimized; and |
Whereas | The Family Education Rights and Privacy act as maintained by UTA already prohibits the use of SSN#'s in directories, as posted grade identifiers, or as class rankings. |
Be It Further Resolved That | UTA prohibit the practice of utilizing SSN#'s as a means of establishing class attendance. |
