Remarks FAILED - 15 hours is only one semester and does not provide enough experience for the presidency.
Whereas UTA is considered a commuter school; and
Whereas There are many transfer students who come to UTA after attending another institution of higher learning; and
Whereas Many of these students come to UTA with a great deal of experience in Student Government or other leadership experience; and
Whereas Some of those students may be denied the opportunity to run for President or Vice-President based on the ratio of having to complete 24 hours at UTA; and
Whereas The amount of time spent at UTA, since it is a commuter school, does not necessarily show that a student is either involved with the institution or has a greater knowledge or love for the institution.
Be It Further Resolved That The UTA Student Congress amend Chapter 5, article 5-4 of the Constitution in the interest of all students to read; "To be eligible to serve in the office of President, a student must have completed not less than 42 hours of which not less than 15 were completed in residence at UTA, must have served as a member of Student Congress for one semester and at the time of installment of the President must be enrolled for at least 9 semester hours and have an overall GPA of not less than 2.25 on a 4.0 system."; and
Be It Further Resolved That That this resolution take effect in the Spring election of 1999.
