Whereas | Students in labratory science classes have problems understanding their experiments and work because of language barriers between themselves and their labratory teaching assistant; and |
Whereas | Students cannot communicate their immediate questions or concerns about a particular experiment; and |
Whereas | The students' understanding and participation in a lab suffers because their questions cannot be fully understood; and |
Whereas | If the lab TA could fully understand the English involved, the students performance in a lab would increase. |
Be It Further Resolved That | Before teaching any lab, a labratory instructor should pass not only a standardized oral exam but an undergraduate student administered oral exam to determine the proposed TA's ability to instruct future students. |
