Remarks | IMPLEMENTED - Memo from President Witt to Provost asked for this to be enforced. |
Whereas | Over 200 UTA students incur academic absences related to official school related activities each semester; and |
Whereas | The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs recognizes "University Authorized Absences" as exempt from academic penalty for that absences; and |
Whereas | Though the current undergraduate catalog indicates that a student with a University Authorized Absence "is not penalized for the absence," several university instructors deny those students access to make-up exams, unreasonably weight final exams, or count absences against final-exam exemption. |
Be It Further Resolved That | The current UTA policy on University Authorized Absences be clarified to include prohibiting the following: academic penalties for absences, removal of attendance bonuses, and denying make-up tests while assigning heavier weights to subsequent exams. |
