Remarks | FAILED - Many colleges need standardized tests to be accredited. |
Whereas | UTA Academic departments such as Math, Foreign Language, and Chemistry offer an end-of-semester departmental final; and |
Whereas | Instructors emphasize different course material throughout the semester and some concepts that appear on the final are not necessarily taught in the classroom; and |
Whereas | A majority of the students in a random survey agree that department finals do not fairly evaluate their progress in class over the entire semester, since the test also carries a large percentage of the overall class grade; and |
Whereas | The purpose of departmental finals has not been clearly stated by the departments that offer them and there is no reported evidence that standardized tests are of a benefit to students. |
Be It Further Resolved That | UTA put an end to departmental finals; Be it Further resolved that: This resolution be implemented immediately after passage. |
