Global ranking underscores UTA's green impact
The University of Texas at Arlington ranks among the world’s leading universities in sustainability, according to the 2025 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Sustainability World University Rankings.
UTA ranks in the top 23% among global institutions, demonstrating its continued commitment to sustainable, environmental research and social impact. Nationally, it ranked 77th among 239 U.S. institutions.
“At UTA, we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainability, even as the landscape evolves,” said Meghna Tare, UTA’s chief sustainability officer. “This recognition highlights our dedication to advancing environmental research and promoting health and well-being. Our strong performance reflects the collective efforts of our students, faculty and staff to create a more sustainable and equitable world.”
This is the third year QS, a company that provides higher education analytics and services, has published sustainability rankings that assess institutions worldwide based on their contributions to environmental sustainability, social responsibility and good governance.
UTA’s placement showcases its leadership in sustainability.
Earlier this year, UTA launched its Climate Action Plan to address climate change and sustainability. The plan will examine UTA’s Campus 2040 goals for deep decarbonization – a long-term strategy to reduce carbon emissions by replacing fossil fuels with sustainable alternatives – and aims to explore how individual actions, policies, infrastructure and finances can support the transition to a more sustainable future.
The Office of Sustainability has launched initiatives focused on resource conservation, education and outreach, transportation and reducing food waste. These efforts aim to minimize UTA’s environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.
UTA offers a range of degree programs and certificates in sustainability, including a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Urban Design, as well as minors in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and Sustainable Engineering.
