UTA professor nominated for national Emmy
Julian Rodriguez, a broadcast journalism specialist at The University of Texas at Arlington, and his colleagues at Catholic University of Colombia and The Weather Channel en Español have been nominated by the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences for a 45th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Award in the Outstanding Investigative News Coverage in Spanish category.
“This Emmy nomination further validates the power of public-private partnerships and transnational research projects with Latin American universities,” said Rodriguez. “It also highlights that technology continues to level the playing field, giving robust communication programs like the one at UTA the ability to produce Emmy-worthy television content."
The nominated program, called “Decisiones: Datos y Cambio Climático” (“Decisions: Data and Climate Change”), focuses on how access to public data can help people understand the effects of climate change and how to reduce their impact. It is the first time The Weather Channel en Español has partnered with universities to produce an hour-long special.
"I am thankful for this Emmy nomination, as it provides a platform to further the message that we must mitigate and adapt to climate change with the help of public data. The story about climate change and global warming is a relevant story that everyone on Earth is experiencing,” Rodriguez said.
The 45th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented in two ceremonies, news and documentary, at the Palladium Times Square in New York City. The news winners will be announced on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
