Wynton Marsalis to speak to UTA community
Wynton Marsalis is the next speaker in The University of Texas at Arlington’s Virtual Maverick Speakers Series.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning jazz musician will host “An Evening with Wynton Marsalis” on Tuesday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. The talk is free and will be livestreamed at uta.edu/maverickspeakers. The event is sponsored by Jeff and Jani Leuschel.
Considered perhaps the leading jazz musician and trumpeter of his generation, Marsalis is one of the world’s top classical trumpeters, a brilliant composer, a devoted advocate for the arts and a tireless and inspiring educator.
He has won nine Grammy Awards and in 1997 became the first jazz musician to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music, for his epic oratorio “Blood on the Fields.”
The Maverick Speakers Series provides a forum for today’s brightest minds to examine the ideas, actions, solutions and people that impact the world around us. In previous years, the series has featured such renowned voices as Jack Hanna, Anna Deavere Smith, Seth Meyers, Emmitt Smith, Soledad O’Brien, Bill Nye, Jane Goodall and many more.
