Greetings,
Last month, I had the honor of presiding over my first UTA commencement, in which we graduated approximately 5,400 Mavericks ready to make their impact on the world.
To help our current students reach this goal and to prepare them for a lifetime of success, we are rededicating ourselves to enhancing the student experience, putting retention efforts at the core of our planning, and increasing our investment in our graduate students. Two recent initiatives, detailed below, will help us achieve these goals:
- Twenty of the nation’s top research universities, including UTA, have formed the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities to increase opportunities for Hispanic doctoral students.
- UTA has launched the Maverick Talent Pipeline Program to convert at least 40 unpaid off-campus internships to paid opportunities, allowing more of our students to apply classroom lessons in real-world settings.
These student-focused initiatives, alongside fresh and exciting research that has the potential to improve lives across Texas, are part of what make UTA so special.
Since my arrival nearly two months ago, I’ve enjoyed meeting thousands of Mavericks at dozens of events. Along the way, I’ve seen, heard, and experienced countless examples of Maverick pride, energy, and accomplishments that leave me full of optimism for the future of our University.
Sincerely,
|
