Greetings,

Collaboration is an integral feature of every UTA endeavor featured in this edition of UTA Impact. As we learn, research and innovate, Mavericks are partnering with fellow Mavs; city, regional, state and national government agencies and organizations; and prestigious medical and research institutions.

One Maverick recently served on a national education task force to improve processes for transfer students. He is now working to implement the findings in a local pilot study in collaboration with a regional community college district.

Grants and research projects are fostering collaboration with organizations like the city of Houston, the Texas Water Development Board, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Alongside funders and research partners, Mavericks are collaborating to develop flood early warning and response systems and design Uber-like transportation programs for moving crops and livestock to market. We are exploring cardiovascular disease in African American women and leveraging smartphones to gather data from African American men and their partners multiple times a day as they face prostate cancer.

On campus, our Office of Military and Veteran Services collaborates internally with UTA’s Financial Aid Office to coordinate support for our military-connected students. The cross-department cooperation contributed to UTA’s selection as the top four-year university for veterans and their families in the United States for the second consecutive year by Military Times.

This collaborative spirit serves to multiply our achievements, and it reflects positively on these faculty and staff members; their colleges, schools and departments; and our University as a whole. I know you share my Maverick pride!

Sincerely,
