Greetings,
The unrelenting pace of Maverick ingenuity is remarkable! I am continuously impressed by the level of innovation that occurs as UTA students, alumni, faculty and staff transform our world with advances and endeavors like those highlighted in this edition of UTA Impact.
For instance, the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs is collaborating with institutions like Harvard, Tulane and the University of Southern California to nurture emerging, underrepresented minority faculty while improving hiring, teaching and professional practice within built environment disciplines. Additionally, UTA My Way, created to introduce new students to our campus’ cultural diversity, helps newcomers feel welcome as they engage in the Maverick community and pursue academic success.
Elsewhere across campus, the research of UTA biologists on disease resistance among coral species was published, and the findings will help scientists anticipate reef decline to support the preservation of our natural world. A UTA course is engaging nursing students in patient safety advancements to improve processes and reduce medical errors. Also, UTA joined the State Fair of Texas to provide scholarships to high school students from the neighborhood surrounding the fairgrounds, an unprecedented partnership that will serve as a model for similar programs with other institutions.
I am particularly proud UTA is the inaugural winner of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities’ National Racial Justice and Equity Program Award. The UTA team created an innovative community partnership to improve health literacy for underserved youth.
Innovation spans our campus, extends to our external partners and engages our community while shaping our society. We are driving progress in every discipline and revolutionizing our world. It feels great to be a Mav!
Sincerely,
