Shashank Moddhia (’05 MS, Biomedical Engineering) is the founder and CEO of The Renal Project, a Mumbai-based company that aims to revolutionize the availability and delivery of dialysis therapy. The Renal Project opened in 2019 with a single dialysis center. Since then, it has grown to include 31 centers throughout remote areas of India.

Maverick powers up with Google
|
Meti Kebede, junior data science major, has become the first UTA student to complete a Google Career Certificate that’s equipping students with job-ready skills, Spectrum News reported. UTA’s Power Up + Tech Up program is part of a larger partnership between the University of Texas System and Google that will award up to 10,000 UT System students across eight universities with Google Career Certificates.

Antarctic maps open house
|
UTA Special Collections invites all to view a new donation of 150 maps of Antarctica today, Tuesday, March 21, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The maps, which range from 1598 to the late 20th century, tell the history of Antarctica, the explorers who braved unknown dangers, and the scientists who continue to work there today. The items were donated by NBC 5 meteorologist David Finfrock, who will be at the open house to discuss the maps, and his passion for Antarctica.

The Big Event

Volunteer registration for The Big Event 2023 is open to the public until Friday, April 7. Join UTA's largest day of community service on Saturday, April 22, and give back to the Dallas-Arlington-Fort Worth Metroplex at any of 40 project sites, including local parks, schools, nursing homes, charities, and more. Service projects are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all participants will receive free lunch at a Brazos Park celebration post-event. |
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Provisional data from the Texas Department of State Health Services shows that 1,672 people died from fentanyl overdose in 2021—an 89% increase over 2020.
