Welcome to Maverick basketball season

Mark your calendars: Mav Madness is back at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at College Park Center!

Mav Madness is UTA’s entertainment-filled primetime event to tip off the men’s and women’s basketball seasons, their first back in the Western Athletic Conference.

This event is free, and the first 500 fans will receive a Mav Madness T-shirt. Witness players in skills competitions and an intersquad scrimmage and enjoy free food and soft drinks while watching a performance by Steve Max, the Master of Simon Sez, from America’s Got Talent.

Plus, fans in attendance have the chance to win these prizes:

  • Road travel with the teams
  • 50-inch TVs
  • RTIC coolers
  • Beats by Dre headphones
  • UTA basketball gear bags and more!

Before Mav Madness tips off, watch our volleyball team's match against Abilene Christian at 6 p.m., also in College Park Center. Entry to the match is free for all UTA students, faculty, and staff with a valid UTA ID.

NBC News visits UTA today

An NBC News team is coming to UTA today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, to demonstrate to students how to use drone cameras for newsgathering purposes.

Register for the free virtual conference, NBCU Academy’s Next Level Summit, and visit the NBC satellite truck and control room, located between College Park Center and Vandergriff Hall.

Annie Liebovitz, Maverick Speaker Series, Nov. 29

Famed photographer next guest for Maverick Speakers Series

Join UTA for “An Evening with Annie Leibovitz” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Texas Hall as part of the Maverick Speakers Series.

Leibovitz is a legendary photographer who is primarily known for her iconic portraits of celebrities for Rolling Stone, Vogue, and Vanity Fair magazines. Several collections of her work have been published, including Annie Leibovitz: Wonderland in 2021. Her accolades include the International Center of Photography’s Lifetime Achievement Award and being named a Living Legend by the United States Library of Congress, among many others.

“An Evening with Annie Leibovitz” is sponsored by Jeff and Jani Leuschel.

Campus elections

Cast your ballot in the campus elections 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 24-25, at the University Center. Vote for Homecoming king and queen, student government senators, UTA Ambassadors, and Student Service Allocation Fee representative.

Volunteers needed

Latino Higher Ed

The Center for Mexican American Studies hosts a roundtable discussion on The State of Latino Higher Education in Texas 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Carlisle Suite of the University Center.

Transfer Student Week

This week is National Transfer Student Week, a way to celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. UTA aims to increase awareness of common transfer needs and barriers and to build community among the current and former transfer student population.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 elections is at the Maverick Activities Center 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 24-28, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 31-Nov. 4.

Halloween Casino Night is a substance-free party alternative to provide students with a fun and safe environment 7-11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom of the University Center. Expect a live DJ, mocktails, a costume contest, and a prize raffle.

Nosferatu 100th anniversary

'Nosferatu' 100th anniversary

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first film adaptation of Dracula. Nosferatu is a silent movie about a vampire who just wants to drink everyone in sight.

The English Department hosts a birthday party 7-9 p.m Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Rosebud Theatre of the University Center. Bring a canned good for the Maverick Food Pantry.

Fall Fest on Friday

The Office of International Education will host Fall Fest 2022 3-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, on the west lawn by the Maverick Activities Center. The fest includes free food, pumpkin/craft painting, games, music, and more.

Glass pumpkin sale

The Art and Art History Department’s 10th Annual Glass Pumpkin Sale and Fundraiser is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, for faculty and staff and Saturday, Oct. 22, for the public at the Studio Arts Center. Proceeds benefit the glass area's student organization and the program.

Fright Night Haunted House

Enjoy a night of scares at UTA's very own Fright Night Haunted House 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Rio Grande Ballroom. Costumes encouraged.

The fraternity and sorority community invites families to enjoy children's games, activities, popcorn, candy, and more at the Great Pumpkin Carnival 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Maverick Circle.

Chili Cook-Off

Can you handle the heat? Join the Homecoming crew and the Division of Student Affairs for the annual Homecoming Chili Cook-Off on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Teams will compete to win the ultimate prize of Chili Cook-Off champion, bragging rights, and an awesome trophy. Open to all UTA students, faculty, staff, and alumni groups. Register your team or just come and enjoy a Homecoming tradition.

Be part of the annual Homecoming Parade, set for 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, down Spaniolo Drive along the College Park District. This year's theme is "Once Upon a Maverick."

Participants are welcome to enter the parade in one of several categories, such as float, golf cart, walkers, or marching band/dignitary.

Decorate Downtown

UTA student organizations are teaming up with businesses for Decorate Downtown—Homecoming 2022 to decorate storefronts for Homecoming Week. Student groups and businesses must sign up by Monday, Oct. 31, to compete for the People's Choice Award and the Judge's Choice Award.

Chalk the Mall

Want to show off your student organization’s UTA spirit in a sidewalk chalk competition? Join us Monday, Nov. 7, for this Homecoming event to unleash your organization’s creative abilities and compete for cash prizes. Sign up by Friday, Nov. 4.

Homecoming 5K

Register now for the Homecoming 5K and get the early bird special through Monday, Oct. 31. Then run or walk through campus with your team Saturday, Nov. 12. Learn about other Homecoming adventures at uta.edu/homecoming.
