SSW adds degree in substance use, treatment

The School of Social Work has added a new Bachelor of Science in substance use and treatment degree program to address an array of substance abuse disorders that cost the U.S. more than $740 billion a year.

While substance use treatment already was a minor at UTA, undergraduates may choose this field of study as a major beginning in fall 2021.

Vaccination clinics at MAC

UTA is partnering with Walmart to establish four on-campus COVID‑19 vaccination clinics open to all employees and students.

The clinics are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 18, 25, and Sept. 15, in the exercise rooms of the Maverick Activities Center.

The vaccine is free regardless of insurance status. Each vaccine clinic will operate on a walk-in only basis.

UTA public health experts Erin Carlson and Rebecca Garner share why vaccines are imperative for the health and safety of the Maverick community.

Financial assistance for new Distance Education fee available

Students charged Distance Education (DE) fees for fall 2021 online courses may be eligible for financial assistance if they are facing extraordinary educational and economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional information, including an application form, will be available after Sept. 13 for regular-session courses or after the applicable census date for short-session courses.

This financial assistance award only applies to centrally charged new university DE fees, not DE fees imposed at the college level. The university DE fee is $25 per credit hour for online courses (excluding accelerated online courses). This opportunity is funded through support provided through the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

CONHI Center of Excellence

For the fourth time, the National League for Nursing has named UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation as a Center of Excellence for the University’s sustained efforts to advance the science of nursing education.
