The University of Texas at Arlington is following reports about an outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China being widely covered in the news. UTA is closely monitoring all federal and regional health authority recommendations regarding the outbreak.
Our top priority is to protect the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We recommend that our community refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the latest information and follow public health guidelines, which are similar to what is recommended during flu and cold season, including:
- Wash your hands. Infectious diseases spread through direct contact with people and contaminated surfaces; viruses can survive for hours. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Cover your cough. Use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm, not your hands.
- Don’t share. Avoid sharing food, drinks, or tobacco products with others who may be sick.
- Avoid touching your face. Germs spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick. Except for seeking medical care, avoid contact with others when sick.
Primary care visits and flu shots are FREE to registered students at Health Services. Make an appointment if you are not feeling well and avoid attending classes until you are better.
Make appointments by calling 817-272-2771 or visiting the Health Services website.
