Law enforcement personnel, teenagers, and young adults will conduct various real-life crime scenarios and role-playing exercises on campus this week as part of a program aimed at youth interested in careers in law enforcement.

More than 400 law enforcement officers and youth will be on campus Thursday-Sunday, July 18-21, for the Texas Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors Association 2019 State Explorer Competition. The annual event features teams of youths and adults competing in various real-life law-enforcement scenarios.

The exercises will take place in a variety of locations on campus, including parking lots, classroom buildings, the University Center, and residence halls. All events will be on the east side of campus.

Some of the scenarios and exercises will include simulated active shooters, bomb threats, gang activity, robberies, domestic crises, minor traffic stops, and more.

Individual competitions include a bicycle obstacle course and a physical agility course at The Green at College Park and a non-emergency vehicle obstacle course at lots 50, 51, and 53. A car show is planned for the University Center mall.

In addition, a video shoot for the UTA Police Department is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Science & Engineering Innovation & Research Building. Public access to the building will be closed, and signs will be posted to alert people to the video production.
