Price receives UT Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award

Iya Price, assistant professor of Russian in the Department of Modern Languages, has been selected for the Outstanding Teaching Award given by the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

Dr. Price is one of 14 faculty members across all of the UT System’s academic and health institutions to receive the special honor, which recognizes educators who best exemplify excellence, innovation, and a commitment to student success.

Flu & COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

Flu and COVID vaccine clinics today, Friday

UT Arlington will hold flu vaccination and bivalent COVID booster clinics for employees until 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 27, and noon-4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, both in room 203 of Trinity Hall. Registration encouraged, but walk-ins accepted. Bring a photocopy of your insurance card and driver’s license to receive your flu vaccine at no charge. The cost of the flu vaccine without insurance is $29, payable by cash or check. COVID vaccines are free.

A walk-in clinic for a free bivalent COVID booster is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in room 102A of the Maverick Activities Center for faculty, staff, and students. No appointment or insurance is required.

Flu vaccines also are available and can be received with a COVID‑19 booster dose.

Paul Paulus, professor emeritus of psychology, has written a children's book that describes his family’s experiences of participating in a network that sheltered Jews in Holland during World War II.

CAPPA designs

Graduate students in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs will present their creative urban design projects as part of "Gathering at the Wellspring: A Vision for Arlington’s Future." The event is 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 27, at the newly remodeled Theatre Arlington, 305 W. Main St.

TMAC, UHCL agreement

UT Arlington and the University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL) signed an agreement to make UHCL a subrecipient under TMAC. This newest partnership will allow TMAC to easily reach the manufacturers in the Gulf Coast region.

Saving community history

Representatives of historically Black communities across Tarrant and Dallas counties learned more about how to preserve their histories and their futures at a three-day symposium honoring the 10th anniversary of the UTA's Dillon Center for Texas Architecture.

Effective College Instructions cohort 2022

Effective College Instruction pinning

On Oct. 18, 54 faculty members were awarded their certification in Effective College Instruction by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) at a pinning ceremony hosted by Faculty Affairs.

The program, offered by UTA in partnership with ACUE, guides faculty in fostering effective teaching and learning practices that promote student success.

Leadership Academy

Leadership Academy deadline Monday

Applications are due by Monday, Oct. 31, for the UTA Leadership Academy, a broad leadership development program that includes the essential characteristics and skills needed to be an effective leader in a higher education environment.

The spring cohort of 15-20 faculty and staff will focus on practical leadership topics, issues within higher education, and personal leadership development.

Early voting at MAC

Early voting for the Nov. 8 elections is at the Maverick Activities Center 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 28, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 31-Nov. 4.

Drug Take-Back Day

Get rid of older or unused medications at a drive-thru drug collection 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the main entrance of Medical City Arlington, in cooperation with the Arlington Police Department.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Faculty and staff with federal student loans may be eligible for loan forgiveness under temporary changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The temporary PSLF changes are set to last through Monday, Oct. 31. Learn more about the limited-time changes and eligibility.

Maverick Performance Excellence Awards

Nominations are being accepted for the new Maverick Performance Excellence Awards. The award is a peer-to-peer recognition program where employees can nominate a colleague to receive paid time off for exceptional performance.

The Information Security Office hosts a Halloween open house with pizza, games, and prizes until 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 27, in room B78 of Texas Hall.

Spooky Songs

The music of the night comes from the Fine Arts Building when voice Associate Professor David Grogan gives some Halloween-themed performances. Dr. Grogan is known to dress in costume. The program starts at 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Irons Recital Hall.

Fall Harvest & Trunk-or-Treat

The School of Social Work hosts its annual Fall Harvest & Trunk-or-Treat 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in lot 49. The drive-thru event for faculty, staff, and students features candy and food for those who need it from Tarrant Area Food Bank. Costumes are encouraged.

Family-friendly fun

The fraternity and sorority community invites families to enjoy children's games, activities, popcorn, candy, and more at the Great Pumpkin Carnival 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Maverick Circle.

'Nosferatu' date change

The 100th anniversary of the Dracula silent movie Nosferatu has been moved to 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Guadalupe Room of the University Center. Bring a canned good for the Maverick Food Pantry.
