Cowley formally inaugurated Friday
|
UTA President Jennifer Cowley was conferred the official authority and symbols of the UTA presidency at a formal investiture ceremony on Sept. 30, where she told the Maverick community that now is the time to dream big.

|
UT Arlington is one of just six institutions nationwide this year to earn the Seal of Excelencia certification, a prestigious honor granted to colleges and universities for their commitment to accelerating Latino student success.
The certification comes from Excelencia in Education, a national authority on promoting Latino student success in higher education.

|
Laura Mydlarz, professor of biology, led a research team whose study provides a novel framework for identifying broad coral disease resistance traits and examines the fundamental processes behind species survival.

Noise control award
|
Manya Singh, mechanical engineering senior, has earned the Leo Beranek Student Medal for Excellence in the Study of Noise Control from the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA.

Mapping Honduras' water
|
Ricardo Sánchez-Murillo, associate professor of earth and environmental sciences, mapped Honduras’ water sources and is helping authorities develop stricter urbanization and agriculture regulations to conserve water and protect vital landscapes.

Piatkowski, White recognized
|
The Office of Procurement and Payment Services recognized two employees for achievements.
Randall Piatkowski, assistant director of disbursements and payment services, received a certificate in business and financial management for administrators in higher education from the College Business Management Institute, co-sponsored by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers.
Joe White, assistant director of procurement and strategic sourcing, was elected secretary of the regional board of the National Association of Educational Procurement Conference. He will serve five years before becoming president.

National Night Out
|
The UTA Police Department will host National Night Out 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Brazos Park. The event includes free food, prizes, activities, and demonstrations related to public safety. Bring canned food donations for the Maverick Pantry and receive an extra ticket for prize drawings.

New agreement for on-campus research
|
UTA’s new Facility and Administration (Indirect Cost) Rate Agreement contains an increase for on-campus research. Principal investigators are advised to work with the Office of Grants and Contracts to incorporate changes into project budgets. Learn more at resources.uta.edu/research.
