City lights up downtown with UTA colors

The city of Arlington has lit up the Levitt Pavilion and City Hall with orange and blue lighting for the start of the semester. See for yourself when you visit the area on West Abram Street. Take your own photos and tag them @utarlington and @cityofarlington.

Traffic pattern change at Mitchell, Cooper

Effective today, Thursday, Aug. 25, westbound traffic on West Mitchell Street at South Cooper Street will have two left turn lanes instead of one. With this change, there will be one lane remaining to continue on West Mitchell westbound through the intersection.

There are no changes to the eastbound traffic pattern on West Mitchell at South Cooper.

MavsMeet celebration

MavsMeet Convocation started with a bang Monday, as cannons fired UTA T-shirts into the crowded arena during the event’s kick-off roll call. Representatives from student organizations including academic clubs, the Movin’ Mavs wheelchair basketball team, and UTA’s resident assistants chanted and cheered as the emcee welcomed the Maverick community back to campus.

Move-In Day welcomes students, families

Thousands of new and returning students moved into UTA’s four residence halls and seven apartment communities over the weekend. Students, faculty, and staff helped at Saturday's Move-In Day event. Mavericks from more than 300 different cities, 30 states, and 14 countries around the world unpacked and established their campus homes in anticipation of fall semester classes beginning Monday.

STEM for students with disabilities

Bree Jimenez, associate professor of special education, was awarded a highly competitive National Science Foundation grant to develop and assess engineering lessons for students with disabilities in elementary schools.

Maverick FRIENDzy was like the ultimate icebreaker. The Tuesday night event prompted students to meet new people through collaborative activities that promoted campus unity and school spirit.

Diversity celebration

UTA's Diversity Celebration Conference will feature the experiential learning "A Day In Your Shoes" workshop, a poster session highlighting DEI work on campus, and Leo Taylor of Ohio State University speaking on gendered language and pronouns. Free lunch and T-shirts will be provided.

Academic Early Alert

UTA’s Academic Early Alert is a referral program that seeks to provide support to students who have demonstrated behaviors that may hinder academic performance and overall student success. The former process via Civitas Inspire for Advisors is set to expire soon. Read more for details.

Benefits reminder

New selected benefits, benefits plan designs, and benefits premium changes take effect on Thursday, Sept. 1. If you have questions about any changes, visit the Benefits Annual Enrollment website.

The way meetings are created in Microsoft Outlook has changed. All new meetings will now automatically include a Teams Meeting link. The option can be toggled off. Sign in to read the article.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

Faculty and staff with federal student loans may be eligible for loan forgiveness under temporary changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The temporary PSLF changes are set to last through Monday, Oct. 31. Learn more about the limited-time changes and eligibility.
