Juneteenth: Freedom Day

No classes, campus closed Friday

In celebration of the Juneteenth holiday, UT Arlington will be closed and no classes are scheduled for Friday, June 17. Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. UTA celebrated its third annual Juneteenth Festival in Brazos Park on Wednesday.

Jon Fagg named athletics director

UT Arlington has selected Jon Fagg as its next director of athletics, President Jennifer Cowley announced. Fagg, currently deputy athletics director at the University of Arkansas, will join UTA on Monday, Aug. 1.

Math connections

A team of UT Arlington mathematicians is leading a new national initiative to create pathways for students to pursue careers in agricultural fields.

Anthropology students attended the Summer Field School in Anthropology, a two-week program to get their hands dirty in archaeology and experience life and research at a real site.

Maverick athletes made good showings at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., last week. Three earned spots on the All-American First Team and one on the Second Team.

Juneteenth Jubilee

The city's Arlington Juneteenth Jubilee celebration will host a variety of events designed to feed the mind, body, and spirit Friday-Sunday, June 17-19.

Show Your Pride

This virtual workshop focuses on the importance of having visibly proud LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff at UTA. Topics include self-advocacy, radical self-acceptance, and allyship. Register to attend at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22.

'Pride in the Archives'

In celebration of Pride Month, materials from the Tarrant County and UTA LGBTQA+ collections will be on display for Pride in the Archives exhibit through Thursday, June 30, in Special Collections on the sixth floor of Central Library.
