UTA recognized for going above and beyond in response to pandemic

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has selected The University of Texas at Arlington as a Star Award recipient for its outstanding efforts to respond to COVID‑19.

The Star Awards recognize institutions that go above and beyond to help students succeed. For 2021, the THECB honored institutions that “ensured the health, safety and success of their campus community through innovative approaches and local partnerships.” UTA was one of 10 award recipients out of 31 applicants.

Free flu shots on campus this week

Free flu shots are available on campus on 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Oct. 26, at room 104E in Trinity Hall and 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at room 200 in the Wetsel Service Center.

The shots are free with PPO insurance and $20 cash or check without insurance. Bring your insurance card (if applicable) and driver’s license.

Coronavirus Prevention: Cover Coughs and Sneezes. Use tissues to cover your coughs and sneezes, or use your elbow if tissues are unavailable. Avoid coughing or sneezing directly into your hands.

Random mandatory testing continues

Students, faculty, and staff coming to any UTA campus in any capacity will be selected at random for mandatory COVID‑19 testing.

Until further notice, 20% of the campus population, regardless of vaccination status, will be selected each week for testing.

Notifications will come from covidtesting@uta.edu, and you will have seven days to get tested after being selected. If you have any questions, contact covidtesting@uta.edu.

Local vaccine clinics

Find a COVID‑19 vaccine opportunity in Arlington, North Texas, and across Texas.

Mavericks can upload proof of vaccination to the COVID-19 Self Report portal in MyMav.

Certain individuals that received Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot. Check the CDC’s guidelines for booster shots to see if you’re eligible and should make plans to get one.

Army accesses innovations

Gen. Edward M. Daly, commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, visited the UTA Research Institute Thursday to learn about the University’s innovations in biomedical technologies, automation and intelligent systems, and predictive performance methodologies.

Open Access Week

UTA Libraries hosts Open Access Week with a series of presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and information sessions on the whys and hows of Open Access.

Changes for UTA email access

Microsoft will permanently disable protocols not using Multifactor Authentication for accessing Outlook to increase email security in the coming months. Read more details on accessing your UTA email on your device using Modern Authentication.

Commencement volunteers

Volunteers are needed for UTA’s three commencement ceremonies Friday-Saturday, Dec. 17-18, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Complete the UTA Commencement Volunteer Form by Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Faculty, staff discount

The UTA Bookstore and Starbucks offer a 10% discount to faculty and staff for all in-store purchases with a UTA ID. Exclusions include textbooks, course-related supplies, Apple products, and computer hardware and software.

Early voting at MAC

Early voting for the Nov. 2 elections is at the Maverick Activities Center 7 a.m.-7 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 29.

Forum on Strategic Plan 2025 Theme

Attend the introduction of the new Strategic Plan 2025 theme, Culture and Societal Transformations, 1-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at the Rio Grande Ballroom in the University Center.

This is a collaborative forum for open-ended exploration of the complex interactions that constitute the diversity of human experience: cultural and artistic expressions, social environment, and the physical world.

The conversation will focus on five topics related to advancing interdisciplinary research and creative works: community development and engagement; diversity of communication; diversity of creative expression and experience; advocacy and civic engagement; and finding solutions to inequities in our world.

Be part of Homecoming parade

Registration to participate in this year's Homecoming parade is live. Participants can enter in one of several categories including float, golf cart, novelty, walking entry, or band. The top three decorated golf cart entries will win a cash prize.

Spooky Special Collections

See Special Collections' Halloween mini-exhibit showcasing some of its spookiest items. Grab a sweet treat when you are checking out the petrifying prints and spooky snapshots through Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Great Pumpkin Carnival

Families can enjoy children's games, activities, popcorn, candy, and more at the Great Pumpkin Carnival 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in Maverick Circle in front of the University Center. The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life hosts the free event.

Fall Harvest & Trunk-or-Treat

Join the School of Social Work for the second annual Fall Harvest & Trunk-or-Treat. Register to attend this drive-thru-only event that is 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.

Tri-C Food Pantry
