Regents Outstanding Teaching Award

Alicia Rueda-Acedo, associate professor of Spanish, has earned the 2021 UT System Board of Regents Outstanding Teaching Award for her exceptional work guiding students at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Rueda-Acedo, who also serves as director of the Spanish Translation and Interpreting Program, said her greatest motivation is the success of her students.

Random mandatory testing continues

Students, faculty, and staff coming to any UTA campus in any capacity will be selected at random for mandatory COVID‑19 testing.

Until further notice, 20% of the campus population, regardless of vaccination status, will be selected each week for testing.

Notifications will come from covidtesting@uta.edu, and you will have seven days to get tested after being selected. If you have any questions, contact covidtesting@uta.edu.

Mavericks can upload proof of vaccination to the COVID-19 Self Report portal in MyMav.

The Pfizer vaccine booster shot is available to certain individuals at least six months after the second Pfizer dose of the primary two-dose series. The Moderna booster is very restricted.

Woo-Suk Chang, associate professor of biology, is studying how fermented soybean products impact human digestive health.

Best in Show art

Elise Milburn, architecture sophomore, has won back-to-back Best in Show painting awards at the State Fair of Texas. Her winning painting will be on display at the Fine Arts Building through Sunday, Oct. 17.

SECC contributions due today

There’s still time to donate to one or more charities to help UTA reach its goal of $30,000 for the State Employee Charitable Campaign. Donate by 5 p.m.today, Friday, Oct. 15, to help UTA make a difference.

Early voting at MAC

Early voting for the Nov. 2 elections is at the Maverick Activities Center 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 18-22, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Oct. 25-29.

Maverick Speakers Series

Join UTA for “A Conversation with Simu Liu,” star of Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, as part of the Virtual Maverick Speakers Series.

Night Shelter donation drive

The Center for African American Studies is hosting a donation drive for the Presbyterian Night Shelter. Needed are hygiene items such as soap, lotion, razors, deodorant, socks, bras, or underwear. Bring to suite 129 of the Swift Center through Friday, Oct. 29.
