Take a shot for some big prizes

An upcoming on-campus clinic offering free immunizations with the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine is available. The walk-in-only clinic is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Maverick Activities Center.

The deadline for the Maverick Motivator Program has been extended to Wednesday, Oct. 6, to allow more Mavericks the chance to get both doses of the COVID‑19 vaccine and enter for large prizes. Regardless of where you received your vaccine, upload proof of full vaccination to the COVID‑19 Self Report portal in MyMav for a chance to receive prizes.

If you received your first vaccine dose at the Sept. 15 clinic, you will be eligible to receive your second dose at the Oct. 6 clinic.

Fall Faculty and Associates

The Fall Faculty and Associates Meeting, which recognizes new professors emeriti, is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center. Register to attend.

New energy material

UT Arlington is one of 10 universities nationwide to receive a National Science Foundation grant to develop new functional materials for energy and semiconductor applications. Stathis Meletis will lead the project.

Next-gen photodrug

Wei Chen, professor of physics, is the senior author of two papers detailing the effects of copper cysteamine, a next-generation cancer photodrug invented in Dr. Chen’s laboratory.

Brain cell communication

Ashfaq Adnan, professor of mechanical engineering, is studying how traumatic brain injuries affect the ability of neural cells and surrounding cells to communicate with each other.

Hernandez recognized

Denise Hernandez, adjunct professor of public health, is one of four North Texas recipients of the 2021 Mujeres Legendarias Award presented by the Ford Motor Company.

Partnering mining communities

UTA engineering students learn through field work how vital it is for engineers to partner with the community in the design process. Work with mines and miners in Colorado and Colombia influenced their views.

Ramblin' Roads Music Festival 2021

UTA musicians at weekend festival

Two Maverick groups put their mark on the Ramblin' Roads Music Festival Friday-Sunday, Oct. 1-3, throughout Arlington.

UTA jazz students play at 3 p.m. Sunday at Legal Draft Beer Co., 500 E. Division St.

The Dan Cavanagh Quartet featuring Grammy nominee Remy Le Boeuf on saxophone performs at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Levitt Pavilion, 100 W. Abram St. Cavanagh is a professor of piano and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

One- or three-day tickets are available, as well as VIP options.

National Night Out at UTA

National Night Out

The UTA Police Department will be hosting National Night Out (NNO) 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Brazos Park.

The event will include free food, prizes, activities, and demonstrations related to public safety. A large number of community partners will attend and promote various aspects of public safety.

An active lifestyle is fundamental to feeling and being your best. A good way to start is to join Walktober, the UT System 2021 Fall Fitness Wellness Challenge.

The 28-day Walktober challenge runs Monday, Oct. 4-Sunday, Oct. 31, and is open to all UT SELECT medical plan members and dependents age 18 and above. The last day to register for this friendly competition—as an individual or a team—is Friday, Oct. 8.
