On-campus vaccine site to close

The on-campus COVID‑19 vaccination site powered by OptumServe will end operations on Wednesday, June 16. UTA students and employees can still register for an appointment or walk in to receive a vaccine in the remaining days the site will be open. The site is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Physical Education Building, 801 Greek Row.

UTA employees and students also can receive their vaccine with priority access at six Texas Health Vaccine Hubs around the DFW Metroplex until further notice. Visit the COVID‑19 Vaccination Information and Resources webpage for more information on vaccine opportunities for the UTA community.

All guidance and protocols related to COVID‑19 for the summer semesters are available in the UTA COVID-19 Summer 2021 Campus Operation Plan.

Proactive testing for COVID‑19 is available on campus through Health Services and the Curative Testing Center.

Juneteenth celebration next week

Join featured speaker Pamela “Safisha” Hill at UTA’s Juneteenth celebration 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Brazos Park.

Juneteenth—June 19—commemorates the day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was read to enslaved African Americans in Texas after the conclusion of the Civil War, which ended more than two months earlier.

Dr. Hill, adjunct assistant professor of social work, is a diversity, equity, and inclusion educator and a consultant at Diverse EduCultural Consulting in Dallas.

A DJ, entertainment, prizes, and barbecue are part of the festivities. Students should bring their Mav ID.

Quantum physics

Karen Jo Matsler, assistant professor in practice and master teacher in the College of Science’s UTeach program, is working to launch a national program to incorporate quantum physics into high school curricula.

NSF graduate fellowship

Kelly Patterson, doctoral student of civil engineering, has earned a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Her research focuses on designing, maintaining, and improving critical infrastructure.

Mavs head to NCAA meet

Arthur Petersen and Bryson DeBerry will compete for national titles this week when the duo represents UT Arlington at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the University of Oregon campus.

Employee Assistance Program here for you

UTA’s provider for its Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is ComPsych GuidanceResources.

Through ComPsych, UTA’s EAP offers confidential counseling, work-life solutions, legal support, financial guidance, and more. ComPsych’s services are available in a number of languages, enhancing the ability to share confidential information completely and comfortably.

UTA’s EAP covers all employees and their covered family members. EAP services through ComPsych are free up to eight visits per issue per covered individual. This is an increase over the previously offered four visits per issue. If additional help is required, ComPsych will coordinate with employees’ UTA health benefits.

Nedderman Drive restricted access, closure

The portion of Nedderman Drive between the Science & Engineering Innovation & Research (SEIR) building and the Life Science Building will have restricted access from Thursday-Sunday, June 10-13.

  • June 10-11: Access will be reduced to one lane between Planetarium Place and the reserved parking spaces next to Life Science. Deliveries to SEIR and Life Science may continue, but maneuverability for large trucks will be reduced.
  • June 12-13: Entire street will be barricaded from Planetarium Place westward. No access permitted for deliveries or reserved parking spaces.

The ADA spaces adjacent to the SEIR loading dock will be blocked for the entire duration of the dates listed above.

Multifactor authentication

Starting Thursday, July 1, Canvas will switch to another multifactor authentication service, Microsoft Authenticator. Learn more about the change.

The deadline to nominate employees and teams for the Outstanding Maverick Awards has been extended to Friday, June 25.
