Save the date for staff listening session

Mark your calendars for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, for a staff listening session in Teams to learn more about plans for the 2021‑22 academic year.

The Staff Issues and Challenges Subgroup of the Academic and Course Planning Task Force will discuss plans for returning to campus. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback as we move forward together in anticipation of a fully open campus. A separate listening session for faculty is scheduled for July.

Take advantage of on-campus and local opportunities to obtain a COVID‑19 vaccine and regular COVID‑19 testing. The wearing of masks on campus is not required but highly recommended.

Improving transfer success

UT Arlington helped develop recommendations from the American Council on Education on how to modify existing transfer and award-of-credit practices to spur student success and reduce the cost and time to complete a degree.

Space weather impact

Daniel Welling, assistant professor of physics, has received funding from a university in New Zealand to study the impact of space weather on that nation’s energy infrastructure.

Cardiovascular research

Matthew Brothers, associate professor of kinesiology, is the principal investigator for an Integrative Vascular Physiology Laboratory study of elevated blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk in African American women.

Agricultural Uber

Caroline Krejci, assistant professor in the Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering Department, is designing a better way for farmers to move crops and livestock to market through a program akin to agricultural Uber.

MAVS 100 awards

The College of Business honored 88 businesses started by entrepreneurs with UTA ties at the second annual MAVS 100 Awards & Gala on May 8. The program recognizes the fastest-growing Maverick-owned or -run businesses.

OIT ready to help with return to campus

As the University transitions back to more campus-based activities this summer, the Office of Information Technology is here to help faculty and staff. Information and resources are available for employees on the Return to Campus webpage. This page includes information about computers, phones, the new Wi-Fi network, and device updates for campus-based, hybrid, and fully remote employees.

Ángeles Margarida, graduate student of landscape architecture, turned to the FabLab for a collaboration with five DFW-based artists who have a connection with homelessness.

Heart fellowships

Andrew Oneglia and Damsara Nandadeva, doctoral students in kinesiology, have each received highly competitive American Heart Association predoctoral fellowships to continue their cardiovascular research.

Creative Escapes returns

The Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence has brought back the Creative Escapes series with a new set of faculty speakers. Astronomy and Space Exploration is online at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 16.

New schedule for campus deliveries, pickups

Beginning Thursday, July 1, Property Management will move to a new schedule for all mail deliveries, outgoing mail pickups, and work order requests.

Nedderman Drive restricted access, closure

The portion of Nedderman Drive between the Science & Engineering Innovation & Research (SEIR) building and the Life Science Building is undergoing construction and will have restricted access from Thursday-Sunday, June 10-13, as follows:

  • June 10-11: Access will be reduced to one lane between Planetarium Place and the reserved parking spaces next to Life Science. Deliveries to SEIR and Life Science may continue, but maneuverability for large trucks will be reduced.
  • June 12-13: Entire street will be barricaded from Planetarium Place westward. No access permitted for deliveries or reserved parking spaces.

The ADA spaces adjacent to the SEIR loading dock will be blocked for the entire duration of the dates listed above.

Multifactor authentication

Starting Thursday, July 1, Canvas will switch to another multifactor authentication service, Microsoft Authenticator. Learn more about the change.

Outstanding Maverick Awards

The deadline to nominate employees and teams for the Outstanding Maverick Awards has been extended to Friday, June 25.

President's Forum recording available

The Staff Advisory Council on May 25 hosted the President's Forum with guests Teik C. Lim, interim president; Jewel Washington, chief human resources officer; and Bryan Samuel, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Active parking permit needed before returning to campus

As the phased return to campus outlined in the UTA COVID‑19 Summer 2021 Campus Operation Plan takes effect, employees should check the status of their parking permits.

Employees who canceled their parking permits or no longer have active parking permits should purchase a new, prorated permit. Hourly, daily, and monthly permit durations are available. All long-term permits expire on Aug. 20.

Fall 2021 permits will go on sale no later than Aug. 1.
