Earlier detection of Alzheimer’s disease

Won Hwa Kim, assistant professor of computer science, is using a two-year, $175,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to use machine learning for earlier detection of Alzheimer’s disease.

Business model for sensor data sharing

Computer science Professors Hong Jiang and Hao Che have received a three-year, $499,658 grant from the National Science Foundation to create a framework for businesses to share sensor data.

COVID-19 testing coverage

COVID-19 testing with an in-network provider is at no cost for UTA employees with UT Select and UT Connect coverage.

Contact Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) for assistance with finding a testing site. A BCBSTX representative will help with choosing an in-network provider with the best location for individual needs.

Compliance training

UTA employees are required to complete compliance training curriculum by Wednesday, Oct. 21. Access training at uta.instructure.com or through Canvas.

Cisco VPN to end

Cisco VPN will not be available after 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Anyone accessing UTA resources that require VPN will need to use Pulse Secure VPN.

Financial Wellness programs this fall

Three financial wellness programs are offered this fall by the Office of Human Resources. Register for one or all.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 7–Financial Guide for Women: Charting Your Course. AIG Retirement Services presents information on how to create a retirement saving plan, evaluating your financial health, and how to help make your money work harder.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 11–Basics of Investing. TIAA explores concepts such as managing risk vs. reward, understanding investment risks, how to accelerate savings, and tools to use in your financial portfolio.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 2–Managing Debt. Lincoln Financial Group offers tips to understand how to strike the proper balance between saving and spending.

CRTLE/SSW speaker series

The Center for Research on Teaching and Excellence and the School of Social Work's speakers series begins at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, with "Leveraging the Neuroscience of Now: Trauma-Informed Pedagogy in Turbulent Times."

Nominate orientation leaders

Help identify great students to be freshman or transfer orientation leaders. Submit the student's name and email. Applications are open in Handshake and are due Wednesday, Nov. 4.

TRS retirement info sessions

The Teacher Retirement System of Texas will host online retirement information sessions this fall. Register for a user ID and password. Select “Register Group Presentations” to enroll.
