Math educator honored

Candace Joswick, assistant professor of mathematics education, has been accepted into the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators’ (AMTE) Service, Teaching and Research (STaR) program for early career mathematics educators working in higher education.

The STaR Fellows program originated with a grant from the National Science Foundation and is hosted by AMTE as a mentoring program. AMTE supports a network of early career mathematics educators who help prepare math teachers for grades K-12.

Celebration Maverick Spirit Fair

Mavericks Spirit Fair

Learn about the perks of being a Maverick at the annual Mavericks Spirit Fair sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council. The fair is 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in the Maverick Activities Center gym. Meet representatives of over 45 businesses and organizations that provide services and discounts to UTA employees.

Bring your Mav ID and enter for drawings and door prizes. The first 350 attendees receive a free Mavericks spirit item.

Regents approve four degree programs

On Wednesday, the UT System Board of Regents approved four new degree programs, which must be authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The degrees are:

  • Master of Science in learning analytics, College of Science
  • Master of Education in special education, College of Education
  • Bachelor of Arts in philanthropy, College of Liberal Arts and College of Business
  • Bachelor of Science in data science, College of Science

In Friday's issue of MavWire, the learning analytics degree was incorrectly designated as being part of the College of Education.

Public health students discuss the benefits of eliminating tobacco noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Maverick Activities Center. Lunch is free for the first 100 attendees.

Mental health first aid

Learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health-related crisis or problem at faculty/staff-only workshops Friday, March 6, and Friday, March 20.

Travel agreement with American Airlines

Through the contract and partnership with The University of Texas System, American Airlines is providing enhanced benefits to improve the travel journey during business and leisure travel. Some of these include:
